Mechanical engineering is Germany's largest industrial employer and the growth engine of the economy. Technologies are developing more and more rapidly and are changing the world of work and labour today. A key success factor for the strength of the industry was and still are excellently qualified employees. Even in times of Industry 4.0, people must continue to be in the center. The experience, competence and professionalism of the skilled workers will continue to form the basis for their successful career development and for securing the competitiveness and innovation capacity of the companies. Especially in times of demographic change and skill shortages, efforts in this field need to be strengthened. Training and further education therefore play a key role and are a core topic of the VDMA.
What is actually happening in the field of artificial intelligence? Where is mechanical engineering currently positioned, what are the changes and what do they mean for modern working and the workforce?
Does the pandemic change the job market for young people? Do young people have to fear for their chances? The VDMA wanted to know more about this for the mechanical and plant engineering industry and surveyed its members.
The number of employees has been increasing for years - what about the engineering quota? Statistics from the Federal Employment Agency are not sufficient here. Your numbers are still in demand and important until 15.09!
On Thursday in Tübingen, in the presence of the Minister President of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, the Young Mechanical Engineers Foundation was officially presented at an official opening ceremony attended by more than 100 invited guests from industry, politics and science.

Engineers in research and development - still wanted?
The next Ingenieurerhebung among VDMA member companies is due to take place in May. Does almost every second engineer still work in research, development and construction? Has the number of engineers developed similarly to that of employees in mechanical engineering companies? And which qualifications count? Your numbers are in demand.
The Mechanical Engineering Junior Research Foundation develops and strengthens vocational education and the vocational training system in Germany. The aim is to secure the technological performance of the mechanical and plant engineering sector.
